PDXposed's final episode
at
Tony Starlight's: Next Stop…the world.
Text and photos by Typod
Sept. 21st, 2010.
What an evening! PDXposed has reached a new summit. By tooth and claw, they've earned every single gouged crevice. If not entirely seamless, they certainly accomplished it with great attitude and style. "Always fun, always positive", this evening was no exception. I am so glad to have attended this exclusive engagement, chock full of great entertainment and comradeship far and beyond measure.

Jon Olson PDXposed host (left) and Josh Martin PDXposed original idea guys.
Quick story. Host Jon Olson's chance meeting with then amateur videographer Josh Martin and his dream of beginning a variety show is anything but classic text or storybook- more along the lines of legend. Jon hilariously recounts his encounter at the young cameraman's dingy pad years ago, listening to Josh's idea's. Reeling from the piles of pizza boxes, Gameboy cassettes and cigarette butts in Pabst cans, he listened to him with reserve, but soon realized this kid was onto something.
Left; Jon Olson and Julie Joachims.
With the quick addition of Julie Joachims brought in for public relations because of her outstanding background in the music and entertainment realm. Then later on, one more young and very talented videographer, Mike Ferry who'd recently graduated from U of O.- they rounded out a great core team. Now, they had all the right ingredients for one of the most tastiest and original programs of its kind .
With a few other friends who were willing to exercise their provisional skills; a combination of will, vision, talent and sheer determination- they'd rag-tag where they needed to and fill the gaps with airplane glue if they had to…voila! PDXposed was born.
Never looking back they filmed show after show. From spa's and restaurants to beach havens, musical guests and places to be to lauded get-away's…even swimming w/ Dolphins. They summarily gathered interested viewers all the way around.
Throughout the last half of the decade, this show has been regionally and nationally acknowledged by its peers, while earning rave reviews and recognition as highly original in its category. They were nominated for TWO Emmy Awards, and Jon himself got Host nominations in the "Non-News" category. In the realm of travel, art, music, food, great destinations and people of interest, they've sought out and chosen all the right people, places and things.
However, as is all-too-common in the land of television these days, though viewership continually shouted demands for more things localized to Portland, advertisers didn't always agree- forcing the show to travel to more distant places. Cui Bono being paramount for survival, PDXposed knew change would determine a new stage, yet continually strove to stay on relative geographic parallels such as Saporro and Hawaii, while making concerted efforts to include Stumptown whenever it possibly could- no wonder Alaska Airlines saw their talent and insight for this medium…finally.

Attendees watch highlights of PDXposed.
In the end, Portland is the winner because Jon and the whole gang's shared dream and rise to stature really lies within this city and its continued birth of the most driven and creative set the world has to offer.
On this night, PDXposed turns the page and becomes "Next Stop", but will operate on many of the same levels, but with a concentration on highlighting the great destinations that Alaska Airlines covers.

Tony Starlight and Jon Olsen.
At Tony Starlights the A list of party guests included many who either worked on or for the show:

Michael Allen Harrison (left) and Patrick Lamb with Jon.

Richard Arnold.
Promoter Extraordinaire-Lisa Lepine. Musicians Michael Alan Harrison, Patrick Lamb, Julie and Andy Strange, Geoff Metts, Richard Arnold and Shel Bailey. KATU's Katy Brown and OMHOF Board member Kevin Rankin among others were on hand to celebrate. Tony Starlight's performance was as entertaining as you can imagine. He even had "Neil Diamond" on hand to sing a swaggering version of "Sweet Caroline". He crooned as the women swooned over him. Jon Olson's tenor version of "Fly With Me" was a fantastic change from the usual Baritone splendor most are accustomed to.

Slides, photos and film clip shorts blazed on a fabulous pull-down screen in Tony Starlight's most excellent Supperclub, thrilling everyone into laughs after laugh. Listening to Jon and Julie talk intimately about experiences they've had along with touching stories about former guests was absolutely priceless. And its important to mention we at Buko Magazine are very thankful for PDXposed's segment of our own PG3 benefit show back in May.Videographers Josh and Mike filmed several well-wishers who wanted share a memory about the crew.

Look for this evenings festivities to be edited into the final 2 episodes, divided between the crew's favorite shows and the musical guest performing.
"Always fun, always positive!" Thank you for making good memories PDXPosed.
